As part of our “Reclaiming Asphalt” Artist Residency with Cook Inlet Housing, we worked with artist Susan Joy Share and Graphic Designer Sarah Lindsey of Little Bird Studio on developing a multi-faceted mural for 3400 Spenard Road.
The mural by Share and Lindsey is a collection of imagery based on the history and geography of Spenard.
We created an overlay of the surrounding street system and the infamous “Deadmans Corner” of Spenard which depicts the streets of Spenard as “alive” during the summer months with a rotating plant installation and in the winter, the streetscape becomes a lighting feature for our season of darkness, further emphasizing that the streets and neighborhoods of Spenard are “alive”.
