‘Iceberg Hourglass’ was commissioned by the Anchorage Museum for the GLACIER conference that took place in August of 2015 at the Dena’ina Center in Anchorage.
The President, Secretary of State, and dignitaries from all over the world descended upon Anchorage for a three day summit to discuss Arctic policies and the future of the North in relation to climate change.
The 800 pound iceberg was harvested in Prince William Sound and was suspended from a steel armature for the duration of the event with only a small fragment of ice remaining on the third day.
The melting droplets hitting the water in the vessel created an audible registration of time passing and viewers reflections where obscured through the constant ripples forming on the surface of the meltwater.
